Following God’s vision for our church, the Mission and Outreach ministry of First Presbyterian Church seeks to reach people around the corner and around the world with God’s offer of love and grace in Jesus Christ. In partnership with mission organizations, and those on the mission field, we share in the work of building churches, training leaders, and meeting the spiritual, social, and physical needs of the poor and marginalized — the least, the last, and the lost. Our support, through prayer, financial gifts and service opportunities, extends out to many local, national and international mission partners.
Operation Christmas Child
OCC is a project of Samaritan’s Purse which delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to needy boys and girls in 130 countries worldwide. This shoebox is the first gift many children have ever received! Each box includes Gospel storybooks called “The Greatest Gift,” printed in the child’s own language. Children are invited to participate in a Bible study course which introduces them to Jesus and what it means to follow Him. Upon completion, they are given a New Testament.
A shoebox gift is a powerful way to spread the Good News. Last year First Church donated 940 shoeboxes. Let’s continue to bless the children with Good News and Great Joy! Stop by the OCC Missions kiosk or tables on Sundays to pick up your empty shoeboxes and OCC brochure. There is also a kiosk with hats knitted by the ladies in the church that can be included in your shoebox. Return your filled shoeboxes to FPC between Oct. 22 and Nov. 5.
“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you…” 2 Thessalonians 3:1 (NKJV)
Join with us as we continually find opportunities to lift our missionaries and mission organizations before the Lord in prayer. Through weekly announcements in First Things First, articles in the Epistle and a monthly prayer time for Missions, we believe strongly in the power of prayer to protect, strengthen and empower those that are the hands and feet of Jesus.
Because of a partnership with Compassion International and International Justice Mission in the Dominican Republic (DR), First Church facilitates mission trips to the DR on a regular basis to visit these organizations and to provide the opportunity to visit sponsored Compassion children in the DR. In addition, other mission trips are available to visit partner organizations and missionaries when opportunities arise.
