Family Ministries

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

At First Church we realize the difficulties families face in the 21st century, as they try to raise well-balanced, morally conscious children, who have a life-impacting knowledge of the love of Christ and are committed to making the world a better place. Most of us would love to “be still, and know God”, but find it hard to do so as we balance the demands of everyday life. Because of the pace of modern life, First Church has made a strong commitment to our Family Ministries. We strive to build up and equip the families of our church to grow in their faith, individually, and as a unit.

We have a variety of ministries and events for families, children and students of all ages. We invite you to discover all we have to offer, and we hope you find a home, where your spirit is filled, and your gifts are used for God’s glory. For more information on any of the events listed below, please contact or through the church office at (239) 992-3233. On the following pages you'll find more detailed information about our Children's, Youth and College ministry programs, as well as the Wonder Years Preschool.

Family Fun Nights

Throughout the year, we have several Family Fun Nights. These activities vary, but all are designed to promote family interaction and togetherness within the safe haven of a loving community of faith. We have an annual Resurrection Festival, Fourth of July Picnic, Family Camp and Fall Festival, as well as scavenger hunts, interactive challenges, movie nights and concerts. Information on upcoming Family Events can always be found in the church bulletin or check the on this website.

Wednesday Nights

In six-week segments throughout the year we meet for Wednesday night small group studies. During this time there is a program for the whole family. While adults have the opportunity to take advantage of a variety of studies, discussion groups, parenting classes and more, children take part in an interactive rotation program that uses a variety of teaching mediums to communicate the faith-based curriculum. Before the programs begin, an optional dinner is served in McClure Hall (reservations required; family maximum $21).

Family Camp

Every fall a group of families from our church has the chance to “be still and know God” together. Family Camp weekend is held at Cedarkirk Camp & Conference Center in Lithia, Florida (a 2½ hour drive). The weekend is designed to be a time for them to leave behind the everyday demands and enjoy the outdoors — canoeing, shark’s tooth hunting, completing the high ropes course, and sitting around the campfire — with others from their church family.
